Members of the New Westminster had a good week at the Interior Open in Kelowna. Steve Bower won the men's 4.5 singles championship. Fabio Prado won the men's 3.5 singles championship. Tracy Janze won the Women's 3.5 singles championship. Jeff Cathcart and Fabio Prado were finalists in the men's 3.5 doubles. Steve Bower and Shawn Duffy were finalists in the men's 4.5 doubles. |

Excerpt: "Gladstone once played against Donald Budge, a six-time Grand Slam winner who's considered by some to be the best tennis player ever. In 1938, he won the Wimbleton, Australian, French and U.S. championships. "'I played him - I didn't beat him,' Gladstone said. 'He showed me a few things. This was in the 1940s, early 1950s. Steve Bower won the Men's 4.5 Singles, defeating Neil Wasylyshyn in the final, 6-2, 7-6. Camila Prado and Petra Turek won the Women's Open Doubles.They defeated Nicoleta Ratiu and Bethany Yurkiw in the final, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. Camila Prado and Ted Moens were finalists in the 4.5 Mixed Doubles, but lost to the top seeded Till Konitzer and Nicoleta Ratiu 6-1, 6-1 in the final. |
